Bernhard H. Mayer® Launches Regional Open Innovation Challenge to Empower Young Designers and Support Breast Cancer Awareness

Egyptian design students invited to create a “Pink October” timepiece symbolizing hope, strength, and compassion

Bernhard H. Mayer®, the distinguished Swiss luxury brand renowned for its fine jewelry and timepieces since 1871, has launched a Regional Open Innovation Challenge in honor of Pink October.

A Legacy of Purpose-Driven Craftsmanship
The initiative bridges education and craftsmanship, transforming creativity into a force for good. Young designers from across the MENA region, including Egypt, are invited to craft a “Pink October” timepiece that embodies hope, strength, and empowerment for women affected by breast cancer.

“At Bernhard H. Mayer®, we believe true luxury is timeless — not just in design, but in purpose,” said JR Mayer, representing the fifth generation of the Mayer family. “This initiative empowers young creatives to craft beauty that makes a difference, showing that compassion can be our greatest form of art.”

Empowering the Next Generation of Creators
To bring this vision to life in Egypt, Bernhard H. Mayer partnered with the October University for Modern Sciences and Arts. Design students attended an introductory session outlining the challenge’s objectives, design principles, and the brand’s legacy of Swiss craftsmanship.

“For our students, this collaboration is far more than a design exercise,” said Prof. Dr. Tarek Saleh, Dean of Arts and Design, October University for Modern Sciences and Arts (MSA). “It offers a chance to connect creative thinking with a cause that matters and experience how design can carry a message of empathy and hope. We are proud to see Egyptian creativity join a regional dialogue led by such an inspiring brand.”

From Inspiration to Impact – A Creation That Gives Back
Through the Bernhard H. Mayer® Open Innovation Challenge, the brand extends its legacy of superior craftsmanship and timeless excellence beyond design. The initiative empowers young visionaries to think boldly, create meaningfully, and redefine innovation with purpose.

Just as each Mayer creation celebrates passion, precision, and achievement, the Challenge invites students to express these values — transforming ideas into lasting impact and reinforcing the brand’s belief that true luxury lies in creativity, purpose, and progress.

Creating the Timepiece of Hope
The winning design from the region will be transformed into an authentic Bernhard H. Mayer® timepiece to be unveiled globally during Pink October 2026. The winner will also receive a mentorship experience at the brand’s headquarters in Biel, Switzerland.

Additionally, a portion of the proceeds from the sales of the winning watch will be donated to a local breast cancer association in the winner’s home country.
